Description: |
Volunteer and spend your summer on the beach! Participate in a scientific crab study, educate visitors about fishing regulations and teach proper beach etiquette. Handle crabs and sea stars and have fun along the way.
Founded in 1999, Beachkeepers is a volunteer stewardship program that aims to maintain a healthy intertidal ecosystem at Belcarra Regional Park. This partnership between Metro Vancouver and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada helps to educate park visitors and provides valuable data on the crab population in Burrard Inlet. |  |

Skills and Experience: |
Volunteers must be passionate about marine life, reliable, and willing to communicate with the public.
Volunteers must attend a one day training session on Sunday, June 13th.
Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 30 hours on weekends and holidays between June 26th and September 6th.
Additional languages spoken an asset. |

Benefits to Volunteer: |
Gain valuable experience participating in a scientific study and gain knowledge of local intertidal life. Learn effective ways to communicate with park visitors about fisheries regulations and try your hand at park interpretation.
Volunteers will receive a reference letter upon completion of a minimum of thirty hours.
